WhatsApp proposes a quicker method for transferring conversations between devices

The new approach does not use Google Drive backup and restore anymore.

A new feature that lets you transport your WhatsApp conversations across devices without storing them in the cloud has been introduced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

You may now scan a QR code on one phone to start a straight transfer to another running the same OS as opposed to backing up and restoring your conversations via Google Drive. In essence, this implies that users will be able to transfer chats with this upgrade without the data ever leaving the two smartphones – or even leaving WhatsApp.

According to Meta, this approach is not only faster when it comes to the transfer of massive media but also more private than cloud services. The new technique ensures that nothing is lost in the move by covering both conversations and media history. Data is completely encrypted throughout the procedure.

How to utilise the new direct conversation transfer feature in WhatsApp

1. Before anything else, ensure sure both of your devices are present, linked to Wi-Fi, and location-enabled.

2. Next, scan the QR code on your previous phone by going to Settings > Chats > Chat transfer.

3. The transfer will start immediately.

There may be another planet lurking at the fringe of our solar system, according to scientists.

According to research, there may be a ninth planet in our solar system after all, but it may be hidden at the farthest regions of the Sun's influence.

There are eight planets in our solar system. Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet, therefore it used to be nine. A pre-print research piece that has not yet undergone peer review, however, puts up the theory that the Sun has "trapped" another planet that may be lurking in the "Oort cloud," far, far away.

According to NASA, the solar system's furthest region is the Oort Cloud. It is thought to be home to billions or trillions of ice space objects, some of which may be as huge as mountains. The Kuiper belt, which currently spans about 50 astronomical units, is estimated to be far closer than this object. The separation between the stars is one astronomical unit.

An multinational team of scientists discovers a possibility that our solar system could have a planet that is hidden away at its farthest corner in a recent pre-print (yet to be peer-reviewed) study. However, how does that operate?

How the camera on Apple's iPhone has changed over the past 16 years

Since the release of the first iPhone in 2007 up until the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has dominated the smartphone camera market.

Millions of people all around the world rely only on their smartphones as their only camera. This has made the iPhone the most widely used consumer camera over the years due to its dominance in the market. The iPhone is adaptable, small enough to put in the pocket, and takes high-quality films that used to need an expensive camera. These days, they are also equipped with "computational photography" capabilities, enabling the iPhone to capture beautiful images, particularly in low light. We examine the advancement of iPhone cameras over time as Cupertino prepares to introduce the new iPhone 15 series later this year.

2G iPhone (2007)

When Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone live in 2007, it revolutionised the smartphone industry and simplified how a contemporary phone camera should be designed. Before the iPhone, taking pictures was a pastime. The iPhone and Apple were responsible for putting cameras in everyone's pockets. The 2-megapixel camera on the iPhone was rudimentary and lacked an integrated flash, zoom, or editing function. Perhaps a lot of you scoff at the photos taken with the first iPhone, yet that one gadget gave millions of people access to photography.

With Zoom's Intelligent Director function, there is no longer any need to remain in the background.

Zoom's Intelligent Director function will make sure you are heard and seen from wherever you are sitting or standing. Find out here how this functionality functions.

Video conferencing applications that were successful during the epidemic are looking to adapt as the business world transitions to hybrid and in-office work patterns. The Intelligent Director feature from Zoom enables everyone in a conference room to be seen up close and personal, regardless of their position or visibility.

The function, which is made for medium- to large-sized rooms, ensures that everyone in a meeting has an equal chance to be heard and seen. Each participant's face is the main focus of the programme, which tracks them intelligently as they move and determines their optimal perspective so that they always appear on the screen.

"Clarity and transparency may suffer as a result of the conventional conference room experience. If someone isn't in the office, they can get left out or get lost in the back of the room. We need to create ways to convey knowledge in real-time, no matter where people are, because meaningful interactions cannot be mutually exclusive with a physical place, according to Zoom.

Exclusive Activision games, according to Microsoft's CEO, "make no strategic sense."

The Federal Trade Commission has requested that the planned purchase be put on hold because, in its opinion, it would provide Microsoft, the company that makes the Xbox gaming platform, exclusive access to Activision titles, which include the hugely popular "Call of Duty."

The heads of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard on Wednesday attempted to alleviate antitrust worries that a proposed $69 billion merger of the two businesses would unjustly consolidate power. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that keeping Activision games exclusive would make "no strategic sense."

he Federal Trade Commission claims that the proposed acquisition will provide Microsoft, the company behind the Xbox gaming system, exclusive access to Activision titles, which include the hugely popular "Call of Duty." The FTC has asked a judge to halt the proposed merger. According to the FTC, this would leave Sony Group and Nintendo completely unprotected.

Microsoft intends to migrate Windows to the cloud at some point.

How about starting a local Windows instance instead when you power up? On it, Microsoft is working.

In the long run, Microsoft wants to completely move Windows to the cloud, giving users access to a full operating system that can be "streamed" from the cloud to any device. For its business clients, the corporation has already made strides in this area, and it plans to do the same for regular consumers.

This information was revealed in a June 2022 internal Microsoft presentation that was made public as part of the ongoing FTC vs. Microsoft litigation. The firm intends to deploy "new OS innovations" to boost Windows' appeal, according to the presentation.

The entire version of Windows may currently be streamed to devices through Microsoft's Windows 365 service. Only commercial clients can now access this service, however Microsoft has been directly incorporating its functionality into Windows 11. Windows 365 Boot, a feature that allows users to boot into a cloud-based Windows instance rather than the local one, is expected to be included in a future release.

Microsoft releases a development schedule for the first real quantum supercomputer.

According to Microsoft, the road to quantum computing is similar to the road to the supercomputers of today.

Microsoft has made plans to construct a quantum supercomputer on its own. The business claims that through revolutionising chemistry, quantum supercomputers have the potential to end food hunger and stop climate change. A quantum machine might "solve the most complex problems facing our society," but there are still a number of achievements to be made, such as the switch from unreliable physical qubits to trustworthy logical qubits.

According to Microsoft, the road to quantum computing is similar to the road to the traditional supercomputers of today. In light of this, the business has outlined three significant hurdles that it must clear before programmable quantum supercomputers can handle issues that conventional computers cannot.

The development is now at the foundational stage, with the test machines being constructed around 'noisy' physical qubits that aren't useful enough to address real-world issues. Qubits are to quantum computing what bits are to traditional computing, according to the uninitiated.

Google and other IT firms complain about unfair cloud practises.

They also follow scrutiny worldwide, including a recent probe by Europe's antitrust authority into Microsoft's licensing agreements that allegedly discouraged rival cloud usage.

Technology trade associations and Alphabet's Google have complained to the Federal Trade Commission about what they claim are unfair business practises in the cloud, including those of Microsoft, the second-largest vendor in the sector by market share.

The responses, which were to be submitted by Wednesday, are in response to a March inquiry from the American agency seeking details on security concerns and rivalry in the lucrative market for data storage and processing power in the so-called cloud.

They also monitor global scrutiny, such as the recent investigation into Microsoft's licencing agreements by the European antitrust authorities into allegations that they impeded the use of competitor cloud services. Industry complaints also concern the costs associated with removing data from the clouds of different providers.

On Monday, the Federal Trade Commission requested a judge to temporarily delay Microsoft Corp.'s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in order to prevent the $69 billion transaction from going through before the government's case against it is heard.

The FTC said Microsoft and Activision had signaled the deal could close as soon as Friday and asked a federal judge to block any final agreement before 11:59 p.m ET June 15.

The FTC said the deal, which would be the largest for Microsoft and the largest in the history of the video game industry, would give Microsoft the “ability and increased incentive to withhold or degrade Activision’s content in ways that substantially lessen competition.”

One thing is obvious... Future goals for Apple and Meta are extremely different.

Even if Apple's Vision Pro is not without faults, Cupertino appears to have a different idea of what a face computer ought to be.

Many immediately assumed that Cupertino's ambition for a "spatial computer" was identical to Meta's Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg's drive into the Metaverse when Apple unveiled the ambition Pro at its WWDC conference last week. In fact, a significant portion of people, including Zuckerberg, made fun of the Vision Pro for being "expensive," "magical," and "antisocial." Apple aficionados may be incensed at Zuckerberg's response to the Vision Pro, but if you carefully read his remarks, it becomes obvious that Apple and Meta have quite different expectations for the future.

The two brands differ from one another in numerous respects, including methods and messaging. While Apple adopted a different strategy with the Vision Pro, referring to it as a generic computing platform that provides numerous experiences, while Meta totally rethought its Metaverse strategy with a headset that will be necessary to experience a single experience (like gaming, for example). You may view the current internet via a different perspective with The Vision Pro. Then things start to get interesting because, unlike Meta, Apple isn't attempting to create Internet 2.0 or the Metaverse, which Mark Zuckerberg envisions as a fully fledged digital environment existing outside of the one in which we already live.

The absence of terms like "headset," "virtual reality," and "metaverse" from Apple's announcement of the Vision Pro may be due to this. In addition to helping Apple differentiate the Vision Pro from its rivals, Cupertino's decision served as a kind of proof of how disastrous the Metaverse was, both as a concept and the course it took.

Those who attend meetings on the fly will soon have access to a new safety feature on Google Meet.

The new Google Meet feature, dubbed "On-the-Go" mode, offers a fresh layout with big buttons.

Google occasionally updates the capabilities available in Meet, its video conferencing service. The tech giant is apparently working on a new "On-the-go" mode that will make it safer for users to participate in video chats when they are outside, according to a recent report by 9to5Google.

There are now many choices available in the Google Meet mobile user interface, which might be challenging for people who need to join meetings while jogging or walking. The new function comes in helpful in this situation. The 'On-the-Go' mode of Google Meet, which takes use of the device's sensors, is initiated when the app determines that the user is moving.

Users may also activate the mode by locating it in the in-call menu, which is accessed by hitting the three-dot button, as an alternative. In order to prevent you from being sidetracked, "On-the-Go" mode, when used, turns off your camera during calls and halts the streaming of other meeting participants' video.

This is the price when Meta verified travels to India.

Following Twitter, the meta platforms Instagram and Facebook also get compensated verified checkmarks.

Meta Verified, which allows users of Instagram and Facebook to confirm their identity, has been available for several months and is now expanding to India. But in contrast to Twitter, Meta is still respecting old verified badges.

In India, the cost of iOS and Android verification is Rs 699 per month. Later, users will be able to confirm online as well.  Users will receive the verified badge, proactive impersonation prevention, and account assistance with the subscription.

Companies are not now eligible for Meta Verified while the social network investigates "what a valuable subscription offering for businesses could look like in the future."

Since the first testing in Australia and New Zealand, according to a letter from Meta, "a few adjustments have been made based on learnings, including the removal of increased reach." The memo said that additional components to add to the subscription were being investigated and that this would also be the strategy for India.

How to verify your Meta

Standards: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and their Meta accounts must fulfil certain activity standards, such as a history of past postings.

Users must then choose the profile they wish to have verified and set up their payment method before clicking "Select and Pay."

Verify: Next, applicants must provide a government ID that is identical to the profile name and image of the Facebook or Instagram account they are requesting for. The payment is returned if the verification is declined.

What is known thus far indicates that Huawei may release Pangu Chat, a rival to ChatGPT, in July.

Huawei's large-scale learning model, which has 100 billion parameters, is the foundation of Pangu Chat.

It seems sense that more and more businesses would develop their own ChatGPT variants as the app becomes the preferred choice of millions of people. Known for its cutting-edge smartphones, Chinese tech giant Huawei is getting ready to introduce its own AI chatbot. At the moment, ChatGPT, Bard, Ernie bot, and many more AI chatbots are capturing the attention of users all over the world. It appears now that ChatGPT could soon have a strong challenger.

Huawei is anticipated to introduce its ChatGPT competitor by July 7, according to the most recent rumours. Taking its name from the large-scale learning model used by the corporation, Huawei's latest AI software is referred to as Pangu Chat. At the Huawei Developer Conference (Cloud) conference, Pangu Chat will debut.Developed by Huawei, Pangu Chat

Top AI breakthroughs range from Chinese tech companies choosing generative AI to Germany potentially banning ChatGPT.

What are the details of Pangu Chat?

According to recent sources, Pangu Chat would initially only be accessible to businesses, and the company intends to sell it to the government and commercial users. Pangu Chat is said to be built on the expansive Pangu cloud model, which has 100 billion parameters. This number is less than OpenAI's GPT-3, which reportedly has over 175 billion parameters, and GPT-4, which is estimated to have over 1 trillion parameters.

The skill of the model is defined by parameters, which are values. According to unsubstantiated sources, Pangu Chat's 100 billion parameters make it appear that it cannot compete with OpenAI's GPT-4.

Too costly is ChatGPT Plus? 7 places where you can obtain GPT-4 without paying

According to reports, Huawei employed approximately 2000 Huawei Ascend 910 chipsets for more than two months of data training. According to market experts, the business annually trains a large-scale model on more than 4000 GPU/TPU cards. It's interesting to note that in just three years, Huawei's cost of computing power has surpassed 960 million yuan.

Additionally, according to testing of the Pangu model, the Pangu-E big model produced close to 1.085 trillion parameters, which is comparable to the capacity of the GPT-4. The deep learning framework MindSpore is utilised in the creation of the Pangu-E large-scale model. The framework is comparable to GPT-3.5 in terms of dialogue generation.

Huawei introduced the product in 2021, and the version 2.0 iteration was presented in April of the previous year. Currently, a huge model for natural language processing (NLP), a large model for weather, and a large model for CV power the model.

NLP big models, scientific computing models, CV large models, etc. are all part of the Pangu Series AI big Models' top layer. The company's huge models that were created with partners make up the top layer.

According to Bhaskar Basu from Microsoft India, AI is increasing organisational efficiency and employee engagement.

Bhaskar Basu spoke exclusively with Indianexpress.com about Microsoft 365, AI, and how it affects workplace efficiency.

The term du jour is artificial intelligence. The IT giant Microsoft has incorporated AI into a number of tools that are crucial for organisational growth, even as businesses all over the world adopt various AI-backed technologies. Millions of professionals worldwide may use these technologies to plan their work more effectively and increase productivity.

Microsoft recently unveiled its Copilot in Microsoft Viva and Microsoft Viva Glint, two AI-powered solutions designed to help businesses develop more "engaged and productive" workforces. Viva uses next-generation AI to boost productivity, engagement, and performance. With AI, Microsoft not only increases productivity but also provides a platform for managers and staff to interact more deeply..

Bhaskar Basu, Country Head - Modern Work, Microsoft India, was recently contacted by the indianexpress.com. Basu spoke extensively on how AI is impacting the workplace and shared some views on the Viva Copilot in light of Microsoft's most recent announcements.

What do you mean by AI as a Copilot and what do you think about the momentum towards AI?

There is a great deal of interest, anticipation, and desire to understand the generative AI developments and technology. We've heard of Dall-E, ChatGPT, Viva, Microsoft Copilot, and other apps. I am quite thrilled about where we are right now, and I firmly believe that the computing industry is entering a whole new age. There has been a lot of discussion over the development of what are known as "powerful new foundation models" and usable natural language interfaces. Indeed, the current state of AI is fascinating.

According to a Microsoft research, 90% of CEOs want to hire employees who have knowledge of AI.

It seems clear that we are moving from autopilot to copilot mode with the current generation of AI. Here, I compare the phrase "copilot" to an aeroplane. In this comparison, the pilot directs, navigates, manages takeoff and landing, and charts the path. The safe transportation of passengers from point A to point B is the pilot's primary responsibility. The purpose of an AI copilot is to serve as a companion, relieve the pilot of the stress of repeated chores, and develop into an ally. The copilot's responsibility is to assist the pilot in attaining their overall goals, strategy, and vision. As a result, the term "copilot" refers to the idea of an AI ally.

What direction has AI taken at Microsoft?

Microsoft has long been an AI firm, and most recently, we made important strategic investments to improve our copilot capabilities. Along with Viva, we also debuted a number of other products, including Azure Open AI Services, GitHub Copilot, Dynamics 365 Copilot, security copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. These programmes combine a number of technologies, such as deep learning, digital twins, cognitive services, and machine learning. Our objective is to integrate generative AI capabilities into numerous consumer and business goods, simplifying lives and releasing creativity, productivity, and overall potential. We are ecstatic about the opportunities and anxious to push the limits of what AI is capable of. We are at an amazing period right now.

What role do you believe Microsoft 365 will play in removing tiresome and repetitive chores so that employees may spend more time on productive work?

We are an extremely productive company, and Microsoft 365 apps like Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc. are essential to maximising production. In the last ten years, we have incorporated AI capabilities such as voice prompts in Outlook and predictive answers in Teams. The launch of the M365 copilot, which seeks to rethink the productivity experience by harnessing human language, marked the turning point for core productivity. A Large Language Model (LLM) that can analyse natural language is combined with the Microsoft 365 applications, the Microsoft Graph (which saves contextual signals), and the copilot.

Office productivity using generative AI: A comparison of Google and Microsoft's solutions

The copilot system interprets your instructions, follows privacy and security guidelines, and produces streamlined replies to improve work completion. Through content compression, document conversion, and text-to-image generation, this copilot method streamlines productivity. It's a fusion of applications, the Microsoft Graph, and the LLM that offers text that is simple to act with. The copilot for Microsoft 365 is this.

Cortana, Microsoft's vivacious voice assistant, is leaving Windows shortly.

Cortana leaves off, and Microsoft's new Windows Copilot continues where she left off.

Cortana on Windows will no longer be supported by Microsoft. The app will be discontinued starting later this year, according to a support article released on Friday. You presumably haven't used it since it was initially offered.

The information comes after Microsoft's new Windows Copilot tool was introduced at its annual Build conference. The gadget, which resides on the taskbar below, is said to be able to do all of Cortana's functions once it is widely available. This entails altering preferences, summarising information, responding to inquiries, and more.

It was inevitable that Cortana would fail. The AI assistant, which debuted with Windows Phone 8.1 in 2014, emerged on desktop with Windows 10 and quickly appeared in all applications, including Office.

Top breakthroughs in Microsoft Build 2023 include AI advances on Edge and Bing for ChatGPT.

Microsoft began phasing down Cortana over time as a result of Cortana's failure to gain popularity, though. After Windows 11 was released, the assistant was no longer prominently displayed on the taskbar and could only be used as a standalone application. Additionally, Microsoft discontinued the app for iOS and Android in 2020.

The exact date that Cortana will be removed from Windows is not yet known. However, Microsoft encourages customers to test out some of the other tools, such as Windows 11's Voice access, the new Bing, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Windows Copilot.

Cortana will still be available on other platforms including Outlook mobile, Teams mobile, Microsoft Teams display, and Microsoft Teams rooms, the firm has further emphasised.
