UAE astronaut's images and footage of Cyclone Biparjoy from orbit

View pictures and videos of Cyclone Biparjoy captured by UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi while in orbit.

Since Cyclone Biparjoy is predicted to make landfall today, June 15, it may wreak extensive damage. UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi yesterday posted several photographs of the storm captured from the International Space Station in advance of its arrival on Indian soil.

According to Al Neyadi, the pictures and video he posted on Twitter were really captured more than two days earlier, when the cyclone was developing in the Arabian Sea. Al Neyadi made history earlier this year when he became the first Arab astronaut to undertake both a long-duration space mission and a spacewalk.

A tropical storm named storm Biparjoy is predicted to produce winds that travel between 125 and 135 miles per hour. According to India's Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC), it could result in storm surges of two to three metres in height, the destruction of thatched homes, damage to pucca homes and roads, flooding, damage to crops, plantations, and orchards, and disruption of railways and power systems in Gujarat's northern and western coastal districts.
