Exclusive Activision games, according to Microsoft's CEO, "make no strategic sense."

The Federal Trade Commission has requested that the planned purchase be put on hold because, in its opinion, it would provide Microsoft, the company that makes the Xbox gaming platform, exclusive access to Activision titles, which include the hugely popular "Call of Duty."



The heads of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard on Wednesday attempted to alleviate antitrust worries that a proposed $69 billion merger of the two businesses would unjustly consolidate power. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that keeping Activision games exclusive would make "no strategic sense."

The FTC has asked a judge to halt the proposed merger. According to the FTC, this would leave Sony Group and Nintendo completely unprotected.
